Uzbekistan joins anti-piracy agreements
An Agreement on Performances and Soundtracks (Phonograms) and a Copyright Agreement adopted in December 1996 as part of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), entered into force in Uzbekistan.
These treaties, also known as the “WIPO Agreements in the Field of the Internet”, set out basic standards of protection of copyright and related rights in the digital environment.
At present, 101 counties and the European Union are parties to these agreements.
The “WIPO Agreements in the Field of the Internet” establish the foundation for a balanced security system in the new technological context in areas such as interactive transfer of copyright content, limitation of copyright protection and promotion of technologies that contribute to dissemination and use of creative content.
We will remind, that on November 22, at the Tashkent State Law University the official opening of the Department of Intellectual Property will take place.
The Department will train specialists in the field of intellectual property, create an educational methodological base. Also, cooperation with WIPO in the field of education and involvement of foreign experts are being discussed.
