Creative Global Talks for authors — digital reality options and effective integration to virtual environment
On December 11 will be organized fourth meeting of experts on the international communication area Creative Global Talks on the topic: «Digital transformation of the author capacity». The event will take place on the platform Zoom from 13:00 till 14:30.
Digital technology without distinction of any sphere isn`t an individual industry, it is a lifestyle. The influence of digital investigations is so huge that it is practically impossible to imagine modern life without them.
Life of the author, creative thinker is mostly hurtable because he/she lives in the world of art, science, inspiration and beauty. So they have no time and enough knowledge to solve problems connected with their rights and find more effective methods to protect their content. At the same time it is not unusual when we hear about illegal use of intellectual deliverables and as a result we understand the importance of safety of our content. Experts, representatives of technological platforms that will take part in Creative Global Talks meeting answer all questions of the authors about IP and help them to find appropriate ways of protection and monetization of their works.
One of participants of the future discussion will be a singer, author, rightsholder, acting chairman of the Authors` Council of NCIP and the member of CRSEA Presidium Irina Vidova-Molchan. On the threshold of the meeting she told us about her attention to the fixation of copyright on electronic variant, digital regulation and actual preconceptions.
On the opinion of singer, author and rightsholder, of course, there are worries connected with using digital technologies in IP sphere and they exist because authors are afraid of lossing information that is catastrophical for any creator.
«Probability of data loss exists in any situation because one of links in the chain is a human factor. At the same time we understand that in the situation when you take information about your work on blockchain the probability of mistake is practically shut out. By comparison, the specialist of any center or society, for example, can get surname of your co-author wrong. There were situations when author registered his/her work in some society and then could not find it in a catalogue or saw that it was written with mistakes. I think that human factor is minimized in digital sphere», she explained.
Speaking about actual situation with rights fixation in electronic version lets study the experience in this sphere that has the Republic of Belarus (Irina Vidova-Molchan is a creative representative of this country). In the web page of the National Center of Intellectual Property (NCIP) of the Republic of Belarus is published the catalogue of works. Therefore, you can see it in order to re-confirm information about the author or rightsholder. Nowadays if the author wants to register rights she/he can do it by hand via special blank for registration of works (or registration list), then this information will be added to the electronic base of NCIP by specialists of NCIP.
«In the Republic of Belarus exists the declarative principle: author announces title of his/her creative work, information about the creators and players. I know that there were situations when dishonest authors registered non-self works, for example, adding adjective that change the title. Formally, it is another work. If we speak about the registration of intellectual property objects -when it will be necessary to show the phonogram or vocal score of the song – may be eliminate the possibility of such kind of manipulation» she said.
In spite of any worries, Irina endorses digital processes not only in word. For example, in 2013 she published her music albums on the web-site CD Baby (USA) in order to sell them on international digital platforms. As for the protection of authors` rights – always it was the private deal of the author or singer.
«Creation and using of different Internet services and platforms, on my mind, become methods of IP protection in Internet simpler. Also it is easier to show extract from the catalogue in the judge rather than collect a lot of documents and certificates», – Irina Vidova-Molchan noted.
Also she said that if all technologies and services that offered authors can confirm its perfection, she and all her colleagues would have more time for creative work. «Assistants are always welcome either law office or electronic platform» singer resumed.
In conclusion speaker said that she hoped that discussion would give her and her colleagues new methods of protection and monetization of creative works.
«I think that digital sphere will form the future of author and related rights. New technologies don`t ask us the question if we are ready for this future or not. It`s a reality that we have to accept and use all her aspects. For example, recently I deposited vocal and music scores that was created by Oleg Molchan (Oleg Molchan gave rights for all his works for Irina Vidova-Molchan – editor’s note) with the help of digital service n’RIS. So after depositing I received certificate and I`m sure that intellectual property is under the protection».
More information about rightholders` needs, their worries and variable decisions will be discussed on the meeting that will be organized on the international communication area Creative Global Talks. Creative community will be presented by organizations-CRSEA members that work in the sphere of author and related rights, and creators. Digital world and its practical use will be presented by the Head IT projects of IPChain group, CEO IPEX Valeria Brusnikina, Commercial Director of n’RIS Grigory Turintsev, Operations Director at CO-FI Crowdfunding Platform Viktor Maksimov, digital-marketing manager of the service FONMIX Georgy Oleynik.
